Before submitting an application students are strongly advised to follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Define Your Goals and Set Objectives
  2. Attend an "Education Abroad 101: Getting Started" info session
These sessions are mandatory for all students wishing to study abroad. You will learn about education abroad opportunities and application procedures, deadlines and more. These small group sessions are offered regularly during the fall and spring semesters. Check the CUAbroad web site for days and times or stop by the CUAbroad office to find out when these sessions are offered.
  3. Consult with your academic advisor
Make an appointment with your advisor and discuss your intent to study abroad as soon as possible. During the appointment, review your tracking sheet and determine which courses - major, minor, electives - you must take to fulfill various degree requirements and learn whether these courses can be taken overseas. Discuss residency requirements for graduation as these requirements may vary by School. Transfer students will need to pay particular attention to working closely with their advisors as there is a limit to the number of courses one can take at another institution that will count toward your degree.
  4. Do your homework
Research programs that you are considering carefully and in detail before completing and submitting application materials. Read program brochures, visit web sites, review application instructions very carefully, print and save course descriptions and syllabi, etc. Ask questions during the application process if you are uncertain about something.
  5. Select a Program
You may select from a variety of options offered by Catholic University and our partner institutions.        *Students interested in studying abroad for a semester are asked to research our programs throughly but to only submit one application when they've decided on a program.
  6. Fill out the CUAbroad Credit Approval Form with your basic information and courses of interest
Submit the form to the Transfer Coordinator and wait for your course equivalencies to be completed. Upon completion, the Transfer Coordinator will return the form to you and direct you towards your Academic Advising Coordinator. Make sure you secure all required signatures (Transfer Coordinator, Major/Minor Academic Advising Coordinator, CUAbroad).
  7. Apply
Submit your online application with all the required additional documentation as required by the particular program. Typical application materials include an official - sometimes unofficial - transcript, letter(s) of recommendation, copy of the information page of your passport, two passport photos, and a deposit. Submit all application materials well before the stated deadline. An application is not complete until all required materials are submitted. Most programs also require application fees at the time of application. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask for assistance.
