Top Reasons to Select the Program

  • You will receive an educational experience like no other in the Oxford tutorial. It caused me to challenge myself intellectually and gain confidence in my writing and speaking skills.
  • The town of Oxford is brimming with British culture and history. In addition to the countless tourist sights, Oxford is an extremely student-friendly city with a lot of locations for studying and great restaurants.

What I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Went

I wish that I had taken better care to propose my courses for my Oxford Tutorials. As a philosophy major, did not realize the cultural gap between British and American colleges in my field. If I could change anything, I would have sought the advice of my professors here at CUA before choosing a course at Oxford.

A Funny Story or Situation

One of my favorite experiences in Oxford was the Summer VIII's ("Eights") Regatta-a day of boat races between the colleges at Oxford that takes place every year during trinity term. Spectators line up to watch the boats finish and student organizations and teams are out in full force to tailgate along the Themes. It was such a fun and uniquely British event!

Words of Advice

It was more difficult than I thought to settle into a tutorial style of education. I found my workload to be about the same as my semesters here at CUA but fewer deadlines (once or twice a week) and a wide range of reading and topics means taking more personal responsibility for your work. My advice: treat your tutorials like a 9 to 5 job. When I did this, I was able to free up evenings for exploring the city!
