What I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Went
- Bring a decent umbrella.
- They don't have stores like target. They have specialized store for everything.
- You can usually only find batteries at a grocery store not a pharmacy.
- You can get all your toiletries over there but bring some to start with.
- Don't over pack! Pack things that are versatile.
A Funny Story or Situation
I was sitting at a bar in Palermo with 3 other students, all of us enjoying our espresso and canoli when an older gentleman asks if we are using the empty chair. Thinking he wanted it to sit at another table we say no. Well next thing we know the old man is sitting at our table taking a nap!
An Embarrassing Situation
I brought my rain boots with me, which was a smart idea! I love my rain boots but wearing white boots with blue, pink, and polka dots with a blue ribbon bow caught some odd stares from Italians.
The Teacher From Whom I Learned the Most
I loved Dr. Crispin Corrado! She always had energy and her passion for her subject and the students was unbelievable. Also I loved her little catch phrases!
Housing
I chose to live with a host family and I loved the experience! I really wanted to learn some Italian and get a first hand look at what it meant to live like an everyday Italian. The only thing I would say is to ask for a host family with children, no matter their ages. Living with an elderly woman was great, but having someone closer to my age to interact with would have been nice.
