Top Five Reasons To Select This Program
- Real life experience: We have all been sitting in classrooms since we were 4 years old. This program gives you the opportunity to take what you have learned and apply it in a real life work situation.
- English-speaking country: If you're not comfortable with a second language, studying abroad in an english speaking country makes the adjustment much easier.
- Parliaments vs. Congress: As someone who interned in Congress for a semester, I wanted to intern in another legislative body in order to draw comparisons and enhance my experience of both internships.
- Freedom: This program does not have much structure while you are away and allows you the opportunity to truly live on your own while you're abroad.
- London: The city is rich in history, culture and night life and I can honestly say there was not a day that I was bored during my 4 months abroad.
Top Five Things You Wish You Knew
CUAbroad did a pretty good job in making sure we knew what to expect before we left and there is not much I wish I had known prior to leaving.
When traveling with a larger group of people, it is sometimes cheaper to rent an apartment for the weekend as opposed to staying in a Hostel and you should try to plan trips as far in advance as possible. The price of travel goes up drastically the longer you wait.
The Person Who I Learned From the Most
While interning in Parliament, I learned the most from the MP I worked for as well as my co-workers in the office about British culture and politics.
Housing
Housing was one of the best parts about this program. Our flat was located just one block off the River Thames and about a 15 minute walk from the Houses of Parliament. It was a clean, safe and fun environment and really added to my abroad experience.
